Image Metrics – Future of Animation

24 August 2008 127 views One Comment

All of us can tell when 3D animation from real life. That’s because the animations are so life-like, they look fake. Shiny skin, silk smooth movements, and awkward face muscle movements all give it away. A new technology by Image Metrics (producers of Grand Theft Auto) brings a whole new face to 3D animation. The new technology uses photo-realistic imagery and video tracking to the pixel when following face muscles to mimic real people. Image Metrics created their first character, Emily, to show the world what the future of animation can look like.

I wasn’t completely sure that Emily was a 3D character while watching the video, the “asymetrical” movements and quirks that all humans have are what make her look so real. The video clip is well made and might even make you chuckle. (Via NOTCOT.org)
