The Pre-1962 America in Color

I came across a wonderful group in Flickr by chance and fell in love with the photos there. “The Pre-1962 America…In Color” group on Flickr has an amazing collection of old, color photographs nearly 50 years old. Most of the photographs in this group were taken in the 1950’s and viewing them is curious…bordering on eerie. Most of the photos we see from the mid 20th century are obviously in black and white, and to view these particular ones in color is quite unusual. Thinking that these were not actors or models posing for an old movie, these were real people changed the way I thought about my grandparents’ generation’s lives. They did drive cars, they did go out to party at night, their children did play with bicycles and balls in the streets…just like us. Huh…

Well I was certainly enlightened after browsing through these photos and was even a little surprised to see some artistic photos in there. Many of the photographs had beautiful composure, geometry, and lighting (especially the street photography ones).

Yeah you can see that alot of work has gone into reinjecting the color into the black and white images… Ive tried doing it myself in photoshop a few times but with no great success. Its a real talent getting the colors and ballance correct, great find, thanks for sharing :)
